Find official allergen details, understand cross-contact warnings and know when to speak to staff.
How to use this guide: Start with the restaurant’s own current menu and a basket that reflects the food you actually want. All examples are for explaining the method unless an official current source is explicitly linked.
Start at the current official source
If you have a food allergy or intolerance, check the restaurant’s own up-to-date allergen guidance for the specific product, not a third-party summary or picture of a menu. Ingredients may change with suppliers, seasonality, recipe updates and local availability.
Many chains link allergen and nutritional information from their main menu pages. Use the exact item name and portion or configuration you intend to order.
Understand cross-contact
A product described as vegan or vegetarian is not automatically safe for someone allergic to milk, egg or another ingredient. Shared preparation areas and equipment can create cross-contact risks. Some restaurants specifically warn that they cannot guarantee the absence of allergens.
Treat dietary preferences and medical allergy requirements as different questions. A menu badge is a useful starting point, not a substitute for allergen advice.
Ask questions before ordering
If you are unsure, contact the restaurant and explain the allergen clearly. Ask about ingredients, sauces, toppings, substitutions and possible shared equipment. A delivery app may not show all the necessary detail, particularly for customisations.
For a severe allergy, the decision about whether a restaurant can safely accommodate you should be based on information from the restaurant and your healthcare guidance, not on a calculator or a general website.
Recheck after customising
Removing a visible ingredient may not eliminate an allergen already present in a sauce, marinade, seasoning or preparation process. Adding toppings changes the product you are assessing.
Check the full customised order and verify each affected component. Do not assume a historical ingredient list still applies.
What our website does and does not provide
AllMenus may point you to official menu and allergy resources, but we do not independently test food or certify any dish as allergen-free. We deliberately avoid adding unsourced allergen claims to restaurant listings.
If your safety depends on the answer, use official, current, item-specific information and communicate directly with the restaurant before ordering.
Put it into practice
Choose the relevant official restaurant menu from our directory. Note the branch, ordering channel and specific products, then use the meal budget calculator or two-quote comparison to test your choices. For allergen needs, check the restaurant’s official information and speak to staff.
